Sleep Token Achieve Their First No. 1 Album on the Billboard 200 with Even in Arcadia

The UK act’s fourth LP and major-label debut for RCA shifted 127,000 equivalent album units in the US as of last week, beating out Kali Uchis’ new record Sincerely at No. 2.

British metal band Sleep Token have reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with their new album, Even in Arcadia.

The new LP is the fourth from the band, and it’s their first to land on top of the chart. It follows their previous effort, An Introduction to the Dust Theory, which peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year.

The new album is also the first by a British act to land in the No. 1 spot on the chart this year. The last British band to achieve this feat was Elton John, who scored his eighth No. 1 album with Lockdown Sessions in March 2021.

The new album arrived on August 25th via RCA Records. It’s available to buy in various formats, including CD, vinyl, and cassette.

The new album arrived with a startup of 127,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending September 7th. This total is comprised of 73,500 in album sales, 478.4 million on-demand streams of the album’s tracks and 2,700 song units.

The new album also achieved the best-ever streaming week for a hard rock album, and it had the biggest week by units for any rock album in nearly a year.

The band’s previous album, An Introduction to the Dust Theory, peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year. It also had the biggest vinyl sales week for any rock album in 2023 so far.

Earlier this year, Ghost reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the new album, Imperatoria. It arrived with 97,000 equivalent album units, which was the biggest vinyl sales week of any hard rock album in modern history.

After Ghost’s new LP, the second spot went to Kali Uchis’ new record, Sincera, which arrived with 110,000 equivalent album units. Sleep Token’s No. 1 chart position came on the strength of impressive numbers in terms of both sales and streams, with Even in Arcadia having the best-ever streaming week for a hard rock album while simultaneously having the biggest week by units for any rock album in nearly a year. The album moved 127,000 equivalent units, of which 73,500 were pure album sales.

The new LP had a startup of 478.4 million on-demand streams, which is the best-ever streaming week for a hard rock album. Previously, the biggest streaming week for a hard rock album was set in August 2023 by Slipknot’s The Total Package: Greatest Hits, which arrived with 464.9 million on-demand streams.

In terms of sales, the biggest week by units for any rock album was set back in November 2022 by Taylor Swift’s Midnights, which arrived with 135,000 units. Meanwhile, Sleep Token’s new album also topped the Top Album Sales chart with 73,500 units sold.
