Young Elementary Schoolers Learn Life-Saving Skills in Practical First Aid Training

On Tuesday, first and second graders from Jacques-Laurent Elementary School in Les Garets participated in first aid exercises. Firefighters Lisa and Olivier from UDSP03 taught students emergency numbers, how to alert authorities, and proper responses to accidents. Organized by Macif and its members, the educational and interactive activity aimed to introduce children aged 8-9 to essential first aid techniques. The goal is to train 300 children in the Allier region by 2024. Scenarios were enacted with the SDIS de Moulins, making the learning experience more realistic. Students were impressed by the importance of first aid knowledge, expressing their desire to help loved ones in emergencies.

Elementary School Students Engage in Hands-on First Aid Training to Equip Them with Life-Saving Skills

At Jacques-Laurent Elementary School in Les Garets, France, students in grades CE1 and CE2 embarked on an educational and empowering journey by participating in a first aid training session led by paramedics Lisa and Olivier from UDSP03.

The objective of this initiative, organized by Macif and its members, was to instill in young children aged 8-9 the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in emergency situations. Clément Failly, a representative of Macif, emphasized, "Our aim is to introduce 'basic first aid' to students in Vichy and empower them with the ability to react swiftly and confidently in the event of an accident or emergency."

The training session focused on crucial aspects of first aid, including identifying emergency numbers, recognizing the signs of various ailments, and performing life-saving techniques. Paramedics demonstrated real-life scenarios, assisted by personnel from the Moulins Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS), to enhance the learning experience.

During one such scenario, Lydia discovered an unresponsive man lying on the ground and promptly dialed 18, the French emergency hotline. A SDIS paramedic answered the call, providing Lydia with clear instructions on how to check for breathing and perform cardiac massage. "This is a situation that could happen in real life," the paramedic emphasized.

The exercises made a profound impact on the students, who eagerly reenacted the demonstrations in a corner of the classroom. Hugo, one of the participants, expressed his enthusiasm, "One day, I hope to use these skills to save a friend or family member. I would be so proud to make a difference."

Through this valuable training, approximately 40 young students emerged as "junior first responders," fully aware that emergencies can strike at any time and place. The importance of being prepared to act swiftly and confidently to save lives was instilled in their young minds.
