Fifty-one tour guides from Pampanga, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, and Tarlac were recognized by the Department of Tourism (DoT) at the Clark Freeport Zone for their contributions to the tourism industry. As a token of appreciation, the guides received P2.55 million in free personal accident insurance coverage and tour guide kits. The DoT emphasized the crucial role of local community guides in promoting the Philippines' local destinations and preserving Filipino culture.

Department of Tourism Recognizes Tour Guides with Accident Insurance and Training Programs
In a significant gesture of appreciation, the Department of Tourism (DoT) has extended over P2.55 million in free personal accident insurance coverage to 51 tour guides from Pampanga, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, and Tarlac. The distribution took place at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga on May 11, coinciding with the DoT's 51st anniversary.
This initiative underscores the DoT's recognition of the invaluable role played by local community guides in the tourism industry. These frontline workers champion the country's local destinations, preserving and promoting the rich Filipino culture, heritage, and history. Their efforts become even more crucial as the department strives to transform Clark into an alternate gateway for tourist markets to and from the Philippines.
"In my exploration of government programs and our budget, I discovered that we do not provide accident insurance coverage for our frontline personnel," said Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco. "Therefore, we offer this as a humble token of our gratitude for your dedicated service. May you continue to convey the Filipino narrative with passion and pride."
Alongside the insurance coverage, the tour guides received tour guide kits comprising electronic lapels, hats, sunblock, sunglasses, and tumblers. The beneficiaries included members of various tour guide associations, such as the Porac Tour Guides Association, Guides Alliance Bulacan at Your Service, Bataan Peninsula Tour Guides Association, Eco Tour Guides Association of San Luis, Aurora, City of San Fernando, Pampanga Tour Guides, Accredited Guides Association of Pampanga, Bulacan Tour Guides, and Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan Tour Guides.
In 2023, the DoT embarked on an ambitious goal to train 100,000 personnel. As of May 10, 2024, the DoT's Office of Industry Manpower Development has already trained nearly 127,000 workers, surpassing the department's initial target. The regional training staff is diligently working towards the revised objective of training 150,000 individuals this year.
The training programs target a diverse range of stakeholders, including tourist businesses, academic institutions, and community-based groups. The objective is to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance the overall tourism experience.
As of May 10, 2024, the DoT Central Luzon employs around 5,500 tourism frontliners. This includes 2,152 from the hotel industry, 1,506 from educational institutions, and 1,204 from local government bodies. These individuals are vital in ensuring that tourists receive a warm welcome and a memorable experience.
The DoT's initiatives to provide accident insurance coverage and training opportunities to tour guides underscore the department's commitment to supporting and empowering the tourism workforce. By recognizing and investing in these frontline ambassadors, the DoT aims to foster a vibrant and sustainable tourism sector that contributes to the nation's economic and cultural development.
