How to enable 2FA on Bybit?
Enabling 2FA on Bybit adds an essential security layer, protecting your account from unauthorized access and enhancing overall asset safety.

Understanding 2FA and Its Importance on Bybit
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security process that requires users to provide two different authentication factors to verify their identity. On Bybit, enabling 2FA significantly enhances the security of your account by adding an extra layer beyond just a password. This helps protect against unauthorized access, phishing attempts, and potential fund theft. Many users ask why 2FA is important, and the answer lies in the fact that passwords alone are often not enough to secure digital assets.
Bybit supports Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) as a 2FA method, which works with authentication apps like Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator. These apps generate a unique 6-digit code every 30 seconds, which you must enter during login or sensitive operations like withdrawals.
Preparing Your Device for 2FA Setup
Before proceeding with enabling 2FA on Bybit, ensure you have the following:
- A smartphone or tablet with internet access
- A compatible authentication app installed (such as Google Authenticator)
- Your Bybit account login credentials
- A stable internet connection
It is crucial to store your 2FA recovery codes in a secure location. These codes are provided during the setup process and allow you to regain access to your account if you lose your device or the authentication app becomes inaccessible. Do not share your recovery codes with anyone, and avoid storing them in unencrypted formats.
Step-by-Step Guide to Enable 2FA on Bybit
To enable 2FA on your Bybit account, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Bybit account using your email and password.
- Hover over your profile icon in the top-right corner and click on "Security" from the dropdown menu.
- In the Security Center, locate the "Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)" section and click on "Enable".
- Choose the TOTP method, which is the recommended and most commonly used 2FA option.
- Open your authentication app and scan the QR code displayed on the screen using the app’s camera feature.
- After scanning, the app will generate a 6-digit verification code. Enter this code into the field provided on Bybit’s website.
- You will be prompted to download or copy your recovery codes. Save them in a secure place.
- Confirm the setup by entering another generated code from your authentication app.
Once completed, 2FA will be activated for your account, and you’ll be required to enter a 2FA code during login or when performing specific actions like fund withdrawals.
Using 2FA for Login and Withdrawals
After enabling 2FA, you’ll notice that certain actions require a 2FA code. Logging in to your Bybit account will now involve entering your password and the current 6-digit code from your authentication app. Similarly, withdrawing funds also requires a 2FA code to confirm the transaction. This ensures that even if someone knows your password, they cannot access your funds without the second factor.
You can customize which actions require 2FA in the Security Settings section. However, it is highly recommended to keep all 2FA options enabled, including login, withdrawal, and API key management, to maintain the highest level of account protection.
Recovering Your 2FA Access
If you lose access to your 2FA device or delete your authentication app without saving the recovery codes, you can still regain access using the recovery codes you saved during setup. Each recovery code can be used only once, so it’s essential to keep track of which ones you’ve used.
If you’ve lost both your 2FA device and recovery codes, contact Bybit support immediately. The process of account recovery may require identity verification and could take several days. Do not lose your recovery codes, as they are your only backup option.
FAQs
Can I use SMS-based 2FA on Bybit?
Bybit does not support SMS-based 2FA due to the increased risk of SIM swapping and interception. It only supports app-based TOTP authentication for enhanced security.
Is it possible to disable 2FA once it’s enabled?
Yes, you can disable 2FA through the Security Settings page. However, you’ll need to enter a valid 2FA code to confirm the change.
What should I do if the 2FA code from my app doesn’t work?
Ensure that the time on your authentication app is synchronized. If the issue persists, try re-adding the account using the backup QR code or recovery codes.
Can I use multiple 2FA methods on Bybit?
Bybit allows only one 2FA method at a time. If you want to switch between authentication apps, you must disable the current one and set up the new one.
