LEWIS COUNTY, W.Va (WDTV) - Being a good neighbor is something that is woven into the fabric of American society.

Sam Sedosky, a local accountant in Weston, Lewis County, was recognized Monday for his heroic actions in saving his neighbor's life from a house fire.
The fire broke out Thursday, March 27th on Valley Chapel Road. Sedosky was coming home from work when he noticed smoke and flames.
He then proceeded to the house where he thought his neighbor, Brett, was out of town.
“When I pulled up the whole porch was on fire and it’s a log cabin so you figure it’s going to go up pretty quick,” Sedosky said.
“So I called 911 and said he should have a dog inside and I’m going to check and see if the dog is ok and the dog was barking so I looked and the door was shut so I thought well I’ll just kick the door in. When I kicked the door in I yelled for the dog and Brett came out and asked me what I was doing. I kind of screamed your house is on fire and we have to leave!”
Sam received a surprise barbeque in his honor along with recognition from state fire officials.
“I was really elated Chief Bowers called me and we talked about it. And we talked about whatever we could do to recognize. And this was just a small token of a great heroic act,” State Fire Marshal Kenneth E. Tyree said.
“It felt like a little bit more of divine intervention,” Sedosky said.
“That day was a really weird day. I did everything different that day that I normally did and I wasn’t intending on working that late that day. But I did and I came by at exactly the right time.”
