Friday June 30, General Devy planted a tree on the grounds of the Ty Vougeret gendarmerie school. A tradition that dates back to the first commander of the 41st Infantry Regiment.
This habit existed even before the arrival of the gendarmerie in Ty-Vougeret in 1999. It dates back to the first commander of the 41st Infantry Regiment. Since the gendarmerie took over the barracks, the tradition has continued. Thus, for almost 50 years, all around the command building the barracks commanders' trees have grown, the vast majority of which are oaks.
General Devy, for his part, chose a liquidambar also called sweetgum or satin walnut. It is a palmate deciduous tree with three, five or seven lobes, producing green fruits containing seeds. In autumn, it will take on a reddish coat before losing its leaves.
General Devy willingly took part in the exercise which took place at the end of the weekly colors ceremony. The tree is now in place. Within fifteen years, it should reach around twenty meters high and staff will therefore be able to find a shaded area during their breaks.
