The Spanish IBEX 35 index closed higher on Thursday, advancing 0.71%, as robust performances in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Consumer Goods, and Building & Construction sectors drove gains.

Spanish IBEX 35 Index Closes Higher, Led by Renewables and Commodities

Spain's IBEX 35 index closed higher on Thursday, driven by gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Consumer Goods, and Building & Construction sectors. The index rose 0.71%.

Renewables led the gains, with Solaria Energia y Medio Ambiente surging 6.01% to €8.28. Corporacion Acciona Energias Renovables climbed 5.17% to €18.72, and Grifols advanced 2.82% to €9.41.

Banking stocks weighed on the index, with Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria dropping 1.63% to €9.30. Unicaja Banco lost 1.57%, and Banco Santander slid 1.38%.

Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered decliners on the Madrid Stock Exchange, with 153 stocks rising, 56 falling, and 16 remaining unchanged.

Among commodities, Gold Futures for February delivery rose 1.18% to $2,672.29 per troy ounce, while Crude Oil Futures for February delivery gained 2.64% to $73.61 per barrel. Brent Crude for March delivery increased 2.33% to $76.38 per barrel.

In the currency markets, the EUR/USD exchange rate fell 0.81% to 1.03, and the EUR/GBP rose slightly by 0.28% to 0.83. The U.S. Dollar Index Futures advanced 0.71% to 109.07.
