SEC's Role in a Dynamic Market

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand (SEC) is playing a key role in facilitating a dynamic market with diverse investment options, according to Pornanong Budsaratragoon, Secretary-General of the SEC.

As part of its mandate, the SEC supports and promotes various investment avenues to cater to the evolving needs of investors, Pornanong highlighted. Furthermore, the regulator is harnessing technology to enhance capital market efficiency and ensure a fair and competitive ecosystem for financial products and services, all underpinned by robust investor protection.

Confirming the initiation of a 15-day public consultation on the G-Token's principles and related draft announcements on 26th May, Pornanong explained that the regulator is preparing a regulatory framework for the G-Token, an initiative of the Ministry of Finance.

This framework covers four main aspects of the G-Token, namely its characteristics, the offering process, trading services, and the secondary market system, to accommodate future issuances of the token by the government.

Discussing the issue of risk, especially credit risk considering the Ministry of Finance's role as issuer, Pornanong noted that the SEC believes it will be "lower than other issuers."

To mitigate price volatility and manipulation, the SEC will implement "Indicative Price" guidelines, setting a reference central price to ensure future tokens are issued within appropriate ranges.

The SEC's existing market surveillance tools, such as price alerts for unusual fluctuations, will also be applied to the G-Token's secondary market on the stock exchange to ensure transparent pricing.

The public consultation period will provide valuable feedback to refine the G-Token regulatory framework further.
