One supermarket will offer a discount to veterans and serving personnel from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 May as part of VE Day celebrations

Tesco is introducing a special discount for veterans and serving personnel at the end of the week.
The supermarket chain will be rolling out the exclusive discount to certain customers in Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 May.
Tesco has decided to bring in the discount to acknowledge the sacrifices of veterans and serving personnel, and commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Ashwin Prasad, Tesco Chief Commercial Officer and Armed Forces network exec sponsor commented: “The 80th anniversary of VE Day is an important time for us to acknowledge all those who served in the Second World War.
“The Armed Forces make incredible sacrifices to keep us safe, and we hope this discount will help them celebrate such an important occasion with their families.”
The store will be among many organisations and individuals to celebrate the armed forces on VE Day, Thursday 8 May, which recognises the millions of people who served and supported the war effort in the Second World War.
The supermarket chain was the first supermarket to sign the government’s Armed Forces Covenant, and the discount introduced from in stores from VE Day to the end of the week looks to add to Tesco’s commitment to bringing its colleagues closer together with military connections.
In order to receive the discount, veterans and serving personnel will just need to present their physical Defence Discount Service card when purchasing items at checkout. Defence Privilege cards, Armed Forces Personnel ID cards (MOD90) and Veterans cards will all be accepted by Tesco stores as proof of discount.
The discount will then grant all veterans and serving personnel a 10 per cent discount on their shop. However, the discount will not apply to certain items including petrol purchases, carrier bag charges, tobacco and lottery tickets.
