India to Release Rs 300 Commemorative Coin to Mark the 300th Birth Anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar

The Government of India is set to release a commemorative coin of Rs 300 denomination to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the benevolent and justice-driven ruler of the Malwa region. The coin will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, most likely during an event in Bhopal on May 31.

The Union Finance Ministry issued a notification on Thursday, May 22, regarding the commemorative coin. It will not be included in the regular circulation but will be collected by the public and can be obtained from the Kolkata Mint of the Government of India.

MP Shankar Lalwani confirmed the possibility of PM Modi unveiling the coin personally during the anniversary celebrations.

The initiative started with a formal request made by Vishwam Social Welfare Society in June 2023. Paras Jain, president of the society, and Ashok Jain, treasurer, played crucial roles in presenting the proposal for the commemorative coin. The society is actively engaged in promoting social, religious, and cultural programs.

The commemorative coin, weighing 35 grams, will be made of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc. It will have a circumference of 44 mm and feature 200 jagged edges.

Here are the design details:

Front side: A portrait of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, with "300" (in Hindi) on the upper circumference and "300th Birth Anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar" on the lower. The years "1725–2025" will be placed on either side of the portrait, and "2025" will be at the bottom.

Reverse side: The denomination “Rs 300” will be displayed below the Ashoka Pillar emblem, with “300” (in Hindi) on the left and “India” on the right.

While the coin has a face value of Rs 300, its collectible version, due to the silver content, is expected to be priced around Rs 4,000 and can be booked through the Government of India Mint's website.
