The Government of India is set to release a commemorative coin of Rs 300 denomination to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the benevolent and justice-driven ruler of the Malwa region. The coin will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, most likely during an event in Bhopal on May 31.

The Union Finance Ministry issued a notification on Thursday, May 22, regarding the commemorative coin. It will not be included in the regular circulation but will be collected by the public and can be obtained from the Kolkata Mint of the Government of India.

The initiative started with a formal request made by Vishwam Social Welfare Society in June 2023. Paras Jain, president of the society, and Ashok Jain, treasurer, played crucial roles in presenting the proposal for the commemorative coin. Front side: A portrait of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, with "300" (in Hindi) on the upper circumference and "300th Birth Anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar" on the lower. The years "1725–2025" will be placed on either side of the portrait, and "2025" will be at the bottom.
