EU Takes Steps to Avoid 50% Trump Tariffs

May 27, 2025 at 11:31 pm

The European Union has moved to negotiate a trade deal with the United States amid rising tensions over Trump tariffs.

The European Union is rolling up its sleeves and preparing to engage in trade talks with the United States amid ongoing tensions over Trump tariffs.

This shift comes after President Donald Trump announced a delay to a planned 50% tariff on European goods. The delay now paves the way for high-level discussions between the two economic powers to prevent a potential trade conflict.

EU Reaches Out After 50% Trump Tariffs Pushed Back

The EU has now officially contacted US officials to arrange the meetings ahead of the new July deadline.

This action follows Trump’s decision to postpone the 50% tariff on European goods, which was initially set to take effect on June 1.

With the new July deadline approaching, EU representatives are arranging the meetings to try and find common ground before the possibility of the 50% Trump tariffs being imposed arises.

President Trump disclosed in a recent social media post that the EU is now planning to quickly engage in talks to avoid the proposed trade penalties.

“European Union officials are now planning to quickly engage in trade talks with the U.S. in an effort to avoid the new tariffs that I announced on Friday, May 24th. They are now in a hurry to get the trade talks started. I said that the U.S. may impose a 50% tax on all goods from the European Union.

“The tariffs on the EU will be paid for by the European Union, not by the U.S. taxpayer. They are collecting the money, not the U.S. People in the European Union are now very unhappy, and they pour out their anger on the European Union officials. We may have to place a tariff on steel and aluminum and /or wine to get them moving.

“They prefer to pay the tariffs. The small winegrowers in France, Italy and Spain will be especially unhappy. They are planning to quickly engage in trade talks with the U.S. to try and avoid the new tariffs that President Trump announced last Friday.

“The small winegrowers in France, Italy and Spain will be especially unhappy. But the officials of the European Union are the ones who want to go slowly on the trade deal. They prefer to pay the tariffs. The European Union pours billions of dollars into the U.S. every year. They create big trade deficits with the U.S., and they are not happy about it. But the U.S. is able to handle it.
