Carson City Mint Coin Show returns to the Nevada State Museum

Aug 26, 2024 at 11:06 pm

The Nevada State Museum and Northern Nevada Coin are bringing back what organizers call a beloved event: the Carson City Mint Coin Show, planned for Sept. 20-21.

Carson City Mint Coin Show returns to the Nevada State Museum

The Nevada State Museum, in partnership with Northern Nevada Coin, will be hosting the Carson City Mint Coin Show on Sept. 20-21 at the museum, 600 N. Carson St.

The show will feature 12 coin and jewelry dealers from across the western United States showcasing their finest finds for sale.

In conjunction with the coin show, the museum will formally open its new “Mint to Museum” exhibit, which highlights the museum's origins as a branch of the U.S. Mint before becoming the Nevada State Museum.

Bob Nylen, history curator emeritus at the museum, will be present to share stories about the museum's history.

Throughout the show, Historic Coin Press No. 1 will be minting commemorative replicas of the “Liberty Seated” medallion on pure, Nevada-sourced silver.

The exhibit ribbon cutting will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 20, followed by the coin show from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the south gallery of the museum.

On Sept. 21, the coin show will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Both the coin show and the ribbon cutting are included in museum admission, which is free for those 17 and under, $10 per person for those 18 and over, and free for museum members.

“The Nevada State Museum is excited to celebrate our history in the new ‘Mint to Museum’ exhibition,” said NSM Director Josh Bonde in a news release. “We are also really excited to work with Northern Nevada Coin to bring back a staple in the Nevada coin collecting world in hosting a coin show.

"These vendors are bringing some of the very best in western coins and collectibles. We hope the public is ready to come see these gems.”

“I am super excited to have a show in the former Carson City Mint again,” said Allen Rowe, owner of Northern Nevada Coin, in the release. “Everyone loves when history and coins come together in such a unique setting, and the buzz about the show is getting louder as it approaches.”
