A major airline has apologised for the incident and said an investigation is ongoing

Boy, 3, served wine on flight as 'attendant did not take his life or death seriously'

A family were left in horror after their three-year-old son was served wine on a flight to London from Hong Kong.

The incident took place on a major airline as the family were served dinner while travelling in business class, including chicken and water for the toddler.

But as the little boy complained that his drink was sour, his mother, Mrs Wong, realised something was amiss and took a sip of the drink to discover what he thought was water was actually white wine.

Mrs Wong said: “The flight attendant started to serve dinner to passengers, and our child just had chicken and water.

“We saw a glass of a water-like drink served to him, and then my husband went to his seat and cut the chicken for him.

“After a while, my son asked for water again, and then we asked what the problem was, he said he took a sip and the drink was too sour.

“We immediately took a sip and found it was white wine instead of water.”

On Chinese social media, she added: “The attendant did not take his life or death seriously.”

The moment happened on the international airline, Cathay Pacific, and despite the plane’s staff seeking medical attention, Mrs Wong failed to get any sleep as she feared “almost losing her child’s life”.

Following the incident Cathay Pacific apologised and said that immediate training was being held for staff.

Later, a spokesperson for the attendants union said an investigation was ongoing.

As stated on the NHS website, “the Chief Medical Officer advises that children should not drink alcohol until they are at least 15.”

It adds: “Despite advice stating children should not drink before the age of 18, some children will consume alcohol. Let your child know the risks around drinking alcohol. These include:

In the UK, it is illegal to give alcohol to children under five.”
