The highly anticipated Bay Terminal project at Chattogram port is nearing completion, with the final stage of land handover underway. The Bangladesh government has allocated 500 acres of khas land for a token price of Tk 3 crore, paving the way for the project's swift progression.

The Bay Terminal, spanning an impressive 2,500 acres, will not only enhance the capacity of Chattogram port but also elevate Bangladesh's maritime infrastructure to new heights. Upon completion, it will accommodate larger vessels with drafts of up to 12 meters and lengths of 280 meters, significantly improving the country's trade and economic competitiveness.

The acquisition of the requisite land has been a crucial aspect of the project. The government's decision to allocate 500.72 acres at a nominal price is a testament to its commitment to the project's success. The Chattogram district administration has instructed the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) to deposit the lease charges with the Bangladesh Bank and provide receipts to finalize the land transfer.

The remaining 120 acres, belonging to the Forest Department, is also in the final stages of allocation, while a proposal has been submitted for the acquisition of 188 acres claimed by various individuals.

Reclamation of 1,620 acres from the sea will complete the land required for the project. The CPA is optimistic about securing foreign direct investment of around $8 billion for the project's construction.

CPA Secretary Md Omar Faruk hailed the land handover as a major step towards expediting the project. He emphasized that once the funds are deposited, construction can proceed.
