Two hikers in the northeast of the Czech Republic were in for a surprise when they discovered a box with ten gold bracelets, 17 cigar boxes, a powder box, a comb and a whopping 598 gold coins.

The climbers took a shorter route while hiking in the Krkonoše mountains when they noticed the box. After opening it, they discovered items that they took to a museum.

Who might have hidden this treasure is still unknown, but one thing is certain: The hoard of items cannot be older than a century, because the coins date back to 1921, CNN wrote.

The find has sparked interest among residents, who, according to the head of the museum's Archaeological Department, Miroslav Novak, are calling for help in solving the mystery of the coins' origin.

Residents' speculation is fueled by the fact that there are surprisingly no local coins in the pile.

"Half are of Balkan origin and half are of French origin," Novak said.

Bradle emphasized that the coin hoard is truly unusual.
