On World Press Freedom Day, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan expressed the institution's solidarity with the Moldovan media.

The official spoke about the crucial role of free journalism in a democratic society and the government's commitment to supporting this right, as stipulated by Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

正如1948年《普遍的人權宣言》第19條所規定的那樣，這位官員談到了自由新聞業在民主社會中的關鍵作用以及政府支持這項權利的承諾。

Prodan also mentioned that Moldova occupies 35th place in the “Reporters Without Borders” ranking.

In 2024, the government increased the Media Fund's budget to 15 million lei, and the ministry provides financial support to 18 editorial offices and is strengthening the Media Policy Directorate.

“The press needs more than symbolic accolades. It needs real institutional support, a fair operating framework and guarantees for its editorial and economic independence. I encourage Moldovan journalists to exercise their profession with responsibility, courage and honesty. The Ministry of Culture will remain an active partner of the free press”, the Minister said.

May 3 was declared World Press Freedom Day by the UN General Assembly to raise awareness of the importance of press freedom and to remind governments of their obligation to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression. It marks the anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration, a statement of free press principles drafted by African newspaper journalists in Windhoek in 1991.
