On World Press Freedom Day, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan expressed the institution's solidarity with the Moldovan media.

The official spoke about the crucial role of free journalism in a democratic society and the government's commitment to supporting this right, as stipulated by Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In 2024, the government increased the Media Fund's budget to 15 million lei, and the ministry provides financial support to 18 editorial offices and is strengthening the Media Policy Directorate.

It marks the anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration, a statement of free press principles drafted by African newspaper journalists in Windhoek in 1991.
