The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report from the U.S. government shows that inflation in the U.S. stayed the same at 0.3% in May. This stable rate offers some hope for financial markets worried about rising prices.

미국 정부가 최근 발표한 소비자물가지수(CPI) 보고서에 따르면 미국의 5월 인플레이션은 0.3%로 그대로 유지됐다. 이러한 안정적인 금리는 물가 상승을 우려하는 금융시장에 어느 정도 희망을 줍니다.

Meanwhile, the CPI, which measures the costs of goods and services across the country, didn’t change from the previous month, but it increased by 3.3% compared to a year ago. This marks a slight decrease from the 3.4% annual inflation rate reported in April.

한편, 전국의 상품과 서비스 비용을 나타내는 CPI는 전월과 변동이 없었지만, 1년 전과 비교하면 3.3% 상승했다. 이는 지난 4월 발표된 연간 물가상승률 3.4%보다 소폭 하락한 수치이다.

Breaking down the numbers further, the report showed that the food index rose 0.4% in May after increasing 0.2% in April. The energy index also saw an uptick of 1.7% last month, following a 1.3% increase the previous month.

보고서는 수치를 더욱 세분화해 보면 식품지수가 4월 0.2% 증가에 이어 5월 0.4% 상승한 것으로 나타났다. 에너지지수 역시 전월 1.3% 상승에 이어 지난달 1.7% 상승했다.

On the other hand, the commodities less food and energy index rose 0.2% in May, showing a slight slowdown from the 0.3% increase in April. This index, which is closely watched by the Federal Reserve, rose 3.4% over the past 12 months.

반면, 5월 식품 및 에너지를 제외한 원자재 지수는 0.2% 상승해 4월 0.3% 상승에 비해 소폭 둔화됐다. 연준이 면밀히 관찰하고 있는 이 지수는 지난 12개월 동안 3.4% 상승했다.

Economists had anticipated a slowdown in headline inflation to 0.1% for the month and an increase in the core CPI to 3.2%. However, both figures deviated from these expectations.

경제학자들은 이번 달 헤드라인 인플레이션이 0.1%로 둔화되고 핵심 CPI가 3.2%로 상승할 것으로 예상했습니다. 그러나 두 수치 모두 이러한 기대에서 벗어났습니다.

The report also showed that the gasoline index increased 3.1% in May after rising 1.1% in April. This increase was largely due to a 5.2% rise in the price of regular gasoline.

보고서에 따르면 휘발유 지수는 4월 1.1% 상승에 이어 5월에도 3.1% 상승한 것으로 나타났다. 이번 인상은 일반 휘발유 가격이 5.2% 상승한 영향이 컸다.

Furthermore, the natural gas index rose 1.1% last month after decreasing 0.3% in April. The electricity index also saw an increase of 0.4% in May, following a 0.2% uptick the previous month.

또한 천연가스 지수는 4월 0.3% 하락한 뒤 지난달 1.1% 상승했다. 5월 전력지수는 전월 0.2% 상승에 이어 0.4% 상승했다.
