New York City, February 13, 2023 - Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has experienced volatility in its dollar-pegged stablecoin, BUSD, following regulatory action targeting its issuer, Paxos Trust Company.

Early Monday morning, BUSD, which is designed to maintain a 1:1 value with the US dollar, temporarily dipped to a discount of 0.9950 against its rival stablecoin, Tether (USDT), on Binance. This marks the lowest level of deviation from its peg in over a year.

The depegging occurred after the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) ordered Paxos to cease minting new BUSD tokens. Paxos has subsequently announced that it will halt the issuance of new tokens from February 21st and terminate its relationship with Binance.
