Digital asset incubation studio Yuga Labs, the team behind the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club non-fungible token collections, has announced plans to launch its controversial Super Punk World NFT airdrop later this week.

In a May 28 blog post, Yuga Labs has confirmed plans to launch its controversial super punk world non-fungible token airdrop this weekend on May 30. The digital asset firm was supposed to launch its NFT airdrop last week but delayed the event following heavy community backlash.

“The Super Punk World airdrop will take place on Thursday, May 30. It will only be available to @ninachanel Super Cool World holders,” Yuga Labs said in a tweet on Saturday. “500 random wallets holding at least one SCW NFT will be selected via on-chain randomization.”

Founded in 2021, Yuga Labs is a digital asset incubation studio that aims to shape the future of Web3 through storytelling, experiences, and community. Yuga Labs is home to some of the most successful NFT collections, including the Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Kennel Club, Twelvefold, Otherdeeds, and more.

Last week, Yuga Labs partnered with Nina Chanel Abney, the digital artist behind the Super Cool World non-fungible token collection, to launch an airdrop to its holders. Nina Chanel's Super Cool World is an NFT collection with a limited supply of 5,080 NFTs. These NFTs are created by Abney and are composed of hundreds of traits that reflect her frenetic collage-like approach to visual media.

With this integration, Yuga Labs and Nina Chanel aimed to blend the avant-garde NFT sector with classical art. Nine Abney, who is known for her funny artworks with Pharrell Williams' Gallery of Digital Assets (GODA) and South Park animations, planned to infuse CryptoPunks with her creative vision.

However, Nina Abney's “woke” artworks quickly attracted criticism, which led to Yuga Labs halting the collection's progression. The crypto and NFT community on X (formerly Twitter) questioned its artistry, conceptual orientation, and perspectives on social issues related to racial and gender discourses.

Yuga Labs X Nina Chanel NFT Airdrop Overview

Now, Yuga Labs is set to launch its controversial non-fungible token airdrop this week, believing that the initial heated community backlash has cooled down a bit. The Super Punk World NFT airdrop will take place on Thursday, May 30.

“Gm, wanted to share an update on punks: when we acquired the collection a couple years ago, we did so with the intention of preserving the legacy of the collection,” Yuga Labs Bored Ape founder Garga.eth said in a May 208 tweet. “We see punks as the early cave paintings of this new medium.”

The highly anticipated airdrop will only be available to Super Cool World NFT holders. Yuga Labs will airdrop 500 random wallets holding at least one SCW NFT. Yuga Labs will select lucky collectors via on-chain randomization. Yuga Labs is committed to the integrity of the CryptoPunks brand.
