Unchained and UATX Launch First Long-Term Bitcoin Endowment Fund

Unchained, a Bitcoin firm, has joined forces with the University of Austin (UATX) to establish the first long-term endowment fund that will be held in the flagship cryptocurrency. This partnership aims to foster a strong connection between the firm and the university, ultimately benefiting both communities.

Together, Unchained and UATX will launch an endowment fund that will remain invested in BTC for at least five years. The partnership aims to raise $5 million for this fund.

Unchained will provide a collaborative custody vault to store the endowment. They will also ensure the fund's security and safeguard UATX's BTC holdings, providing them with a reliable and secure investment vehicle.

According to a press release, Unchained's co-founder and CEO, Joseph Kelly, jumpstarted the initiative with a donation of 2 BTC, valued at around $138,000. In an X post, Kelly expressed his enthusiasm for uniting both communities through this collaboration.

The partnership aims to pave the way for integrating BTC into higher education, encouraging other academic institutions to adopt forward-thinking financial strategies. As stated in the announcement:

"By incorporating Bitcoin into its endowment, UATX is setting a precedent for other academic institutions to explore alternative and potentially more resilient financial models."

This partnership extends beyond a financial investment, as Unchained aims to foster stronger ties between the university and the Bitcoin community. To achieve this goal, the firm and UATX will collaborate on several initiatives, such as joint marketing campaigns, events, guest lectures, and debates.

Through this partnership, Unchained hopes to democratize access to financial tools and knowledge for students, providing them with the resources they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Several high-profile events and activities will be organized in Bitcoin Commons and other locations across the US to engage in fundraising and community efforts. These events aim to raise awareness, generate interest among potential donors, and facilitate open discussions.

Moreover, the collaboration aims to create a community of passionate supporters for Bitcoin education and its expansion. The partnership also seeks to engage in activities that will shape the next generation of scholars and entrepreneurs.

Unchained and UATX will organize seminars, workshops, and conferences to create platforms for dialogue and collaboration, promoting a deeper understanding of Bitcoin's potential and its impact on society. This approach aims to inspire a generation of scholars and entrepreneurs who are equipped to navigate and shape the future of finance and technology.

This recently launched collaboration is not the first approach by the academia towards cryptocurrencies. As reported by Bitcoinist, the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration (HWZ) recently announced a first-of-its-kind Bitcoin course.

The course will delve into the various aspects of the flagship cryptocurrency, covering its economic impact on traditional finance, the complex regulatory landscape worldwide, the technical aspects of blockchain technology, and more.

Ultimately, these efforts could pave the way for broader adoption and endorsement of Bitcoin in the academic world, creating a bridge between the traditional learning systems and the new financial landscape.
