Paris Saint-Germain has partnered with blockchain data company Matchain to launch PlayerID, a next-generation platform designed to change how professional athlete data is handled.

Paris Saint-Germain has teamed up with blockchain data company Matchain to create PlayerID, a new platform designed to revolutionize the way professional athlete data is handled, kicking off a new era in data management.
The platform, which is still in the testing phase, aims to create a secure digital identity for each athlete, collecting their career data into one powerful AI-powered platform. This system will allow athletes to manage their own data, deciding who has access and for what purpose.
Coaches, analysts, agents, and other relevant parties can then access the data they need in a controlled and efficient manner. A core concept is granting athletes complete ownership and control over their data. This stands in contrast to traditional systems, where data is often compartmentalized or retained by teams and leagues.
Within the platform, agents and clubs will be able to extract valuable performance insights to plan and execute optimal player development strategies. PlayerID will include modules for evaluating progress, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and making informed decisions regarding training and career progression.
Moreover, PlayerID will facilitate seamless collaboration by connecting different departments within a sports organization. Performance data, medical reports, and commercial insights can be shared more smoothly between teams, streamlining workflows and fostering more unified strategies across sporting and business operations.
The platform will also incorporate predictive features that utilize advanced data analysis to estimate performance outcomes and identify potential injury risks. This information will enable staff to tailor training programs more effectively and minimize chances of physical setbacks.
Initially developed for internal use at Paris Saint-Germain, PlayerID is expected to launch to the wider sports world soon. This launch aligns with a broader shift in professional sports towards more responsible and efficient data utilization.
The goal is not only to maximize performance but also to safeguard player well-being and promote career longevity. In an age where data is paramount, PlayerID promises to empower athletes and stakeholders alike with the ultimate aim of advancing the future of professional sports.
Par Helgosson, Head of PSG Labs, added: “We are constantly striving to be at the forefront of technological innovation and collaborate with the best partners in the industry. At PSG Labs, we don’t just adopt innovation, we create it. PlayerID is a prime example of how we can leverage data and technology in a responsible manner to support athletic performance and career development to the highest standard.”
