Render Network Enhances Blender Cycles with Decentralized GPU Power
May 20, 2025 at 03:09 am
Render Network now supports Blender Cycles, offering high-performance decentralized GPU rendering. This integration marks a significant milestone for the open-source 3D ecosystem.
Render Network, the decentralized GPU rendering service, has announced public support for Blender Cycles.
This integration, which follows a six-month beta testing phase with a select group of skilled artists, provides nearly unlimited high-performance GPU rendering capabilities to the open-source 3D ecosystem.
The integration of Blender Cycles onto the Render Network was first previewed at RenderCon earlier this year. A critical step in executing Render Network Proposal (RNP-014), the aim is to support millions of Blender users with the network's vast decentralized GPU rendering resources. This initiative also ties into the broader goal of democratizing 3D content creation with open and professional-grade tools.
For the past year, Blender users have been able to access the Render Network without any subscription thanks to OTOY's provision of full Octane licenses to all Blender users. This collaboration has enabled millions of Blender artists to utilize the industry-leading GPU path-tracing render engine.
Now, with the addition of Blender Cycles, the Render Network expands its offerings even further. Joining Maxon's Redshift and OctaneRender on the Render Network, Cycles becomes the third GPU render engine supported by the service. Support for Arnold Render is also expected to enter beta testing soon.
Moreover, a Blender Wizard is currently in development to provide native .blend file support, allowing seamless access to high-performance GPU cloud rendering directly from Blender's interface.
This integration builds on the Render Network's ongoing support for the Blender ecosystem, which includes its role as a Corporate Patron in the Blender Development Fund, ensuring the sustainable development of Blender.
To assist users in making the most of Blender Cycles on the Render Network, the service has created a dedicated section in its Knowledge Base and a 20-part video tutorial series by Steven Scott. These resources are designed to help users optimize their Blender workflows for optimal performance on the Render Network.
Furthermore, the Render Network Foundation has launched the Render Royale art competition, which offers monthly prizes for artworks created using Cycles on the Render Network. For larger projects, the Foundation's Grant Program provides compute credits for ambitious creative endeavors that align with the Foundation's mission.
Blender users can try out the Cycles integration on the Render Network here: https://render.x.io/. Support is available through the Render Knowledge Base and live chat support within the Render portal.
