Ohio Casinos See Revenues Increase in October 2024, Table Game Numbers Make the Difference

Dec 06, 2024 at 04:07 am

The Ohio Casino Control Commission has released its casino revenues reports for October 2024, revealing the state collected more than $83 million in revenues.

Ohio Casinos See Revenues Increase in October 2024, Table Game Numbers Make the Difference

Ohio casino revenues remained largely consistent in October 2024, with the state collecting more than $83 million in casino revenues, according to the latest figures from the Ohio Casino Control Commission. The October revenues showed a 4.6% increase from the same month in 2023 and a 1.7% climb from September 2024.

Despite the $83 million in revenues falling around the average for 2024, with casinos collecting $83.4 million in April and $83.5 million in February, October 2024 saw a year-high in table game revenues. That came despite a drop in state-wide table games from 352 to 340 in September.

Most Ohio Casinos See Revenues Increase

Four Ohio casinos are included in the Ohio Casino Control Commission report, and three of the operators enjoyed year-on-year revenue growth.

Hollywood Columbus Casino is the state’s most significant revenue generator, generating almost 29% of all revenue in October 2024. Its figure of almost $24 million marked a growth of 12.6% year over year and was the casino’s highest monthly revenue amount in 2024.

Another PENN Entertainment property, Hollywood Toledo Casino, also experienced an increase in revenues in October, climbing by 6.4% year-on-year to nearly $18.8 million. The slot payout percentage hit its second-lowest figure of the year at 91.55%, resulting in almost $16 million in slot revenues alone for the casino.

The other casino to enjoy growth was Hard Rock Cincinnati, breaking the $20 million barrier with its October 2024 numbers, a jump of 7.9% year-on-year. It marked three consecutive months with Hard Rock Cincinnati hitting $20 million in revenues.

Table Game Numbers Makes the Difference

The only casino that did not enjoy revenue growth was Jack Cleveland Casino, where revenues dropped by 7.7% to $19.8 million. Table game revenues let the operator down, falling from over $8,324,000 to $7,614,739 year-on-year. Jack Cleveland Casino was the largest table game operator in OH in October 2023, with 120, but that number fell to 99 in October 2024, below the 100 available at Hard Rock Cincinnati.

Table games were an area of strength for Ohio casinos generally in October 2024, with nearly $22.9 million collecting the highest total for the game type since March 2024. Hollywood Columbus Casino attracted almost $5.7 million in table game revenues, its second-highest amount in 2024. The other two casinos also collected healthy table game revenues compared to the rest of the year.

Government Clamps Down on Illegal Gambling

Fewer table games were operational in Cleveland Jack Casino and across Ohio, including at illegal casinos. The Ohio Casino Control Commission shut down three illegal gambling halls earlier in 2024. With these unlawful options gone, legal casinos may have benefited from these customers, helping revenues grow year-on-year.

Ohio Sports Bettors Nearly Breaking Records

Meanwhile, Ohio gamblers have been spending large amounts on sports betting. In October, Ohio bettors spent $901.4 million on sports betting, the second-highest month since the state launched legal sports betting in January 2023. October betting totals are 20.6% higher than the corresponding month last year and 4.5% higher than September’s spend of $863 million.
