Metaplanet Inc. Makes Waves with Bitcoin Acquisition, Further Solidifying Its Position in the Digital Asset Space

The latest Bitcoin purchase by Metaplanet Inc further cements the company's footprint in the digital asset space.

As part of its ongoing Bitcoin Treasury Operations, the company bought 162 Bitcoin at an average price of 12,393,669 yen per Bitcoin, for a total purchase amount of 2.008 billion yen.

The purchase brings Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings to 3,050, with an average purchase price of 12,607,094 yen per Bitcoin and a total value of 38.452 billion yen.

The company aims to reach 21,000 BTC by 2026 and 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025. Notably, From October 1 to December 31, 2024, Metaplanet achieved an impressive BTC Yield of 309.8%. For the first quarter of 2025, from January 1 to March 12, the company reported a BTC Yield of 53.2%.

These results highlight the company’s strong performance in its Bitcoin Treasury Operations.

Metaplanet’s Board of Directors approved the issuance of its 8th Series of Ordinary Bonds and the 14th to 17th Series of Stock Acquisition Rights, to be paid in installments over four times. A third-party allotment of 2 billion yen of the 8th Series Bonds to EVO FUND will be used for funding.

The bonds are zero-coupon bonds with a maturity date of September 11, 2025. The company plans to redeem them using the proceeds from exercising the 14th to 17th Series of Stock Acquisition Rights. The funds raised will be directed toward Metaplanet’s Bitcoin acquisition strategy, as detailed in its earlier disclosure on January 28, 2025.

Metaplanet has been consistently increasing its Bitcoin holdings since 2023. By using a smart borrowing strategy, similar to MicroStrategy, the company is taking advantage of Japan’s low interest rates to grow its Bitcoin stash. This approach is enabling Metaplanet to become one of the biggest corporate Bitcoin holders in Asia.

Metaplanet stock is currently trading at 3,605 JPY, up around 8%.

Bitcoin price today showed a slight recovery after falling to a low of $76K.

Rising to $82,120, Bitcoin went up more than 3% during the day, with a low of $79,059 and a high of $83,737.

The price movements come after a period of uncertainty and market volatility, where Bitcoin faced downward pressure due to various factors, including broader economic concerns and shifts in investor sentiment.
