The United Arab Emirates has announced that Eid al Fitr will begin on Sunday, March 30, marking the end of Ramadan.

The announcement was made by Emirates News Agency (WAM) following the observation of the moon, which confirmed the absence of the Shawwal crescent moon.

The day will begin with the Eid prayer, performed in mosques and designated outdoor prayer areas across the country. Families will dress in their finest clothing, often new or traditional attire, and exchange greetings of “Eid Mubarak.”

One of the cherished customs of Eid in the UAE is “Eidiyah,” the giving of money to children as a token of joy and prosperity. The practice, usually seen by younger generations in particular, is a vivid display of blessings and is often accompanied by small gifts.

Homes will be decorated in anticipation of the holiday, and communal feasts will bring together relatives and friends. Popular dishes include “ouzi”, a slow-cooked rice and meat dish, as well as sweets such as luqaimat, deep-fried dumplings drizzled with date syrup.

Women and girls will frequently adorn their hands with intricate henna designs, a tradition that adds to the festive atmosphere. Beauty salons are often fully booked in the days leading up to Eid as many seek to take part in this custom.

Public spaces, including malls and streets, will be decorated with festive lights, lanterns, and crescent moon motifs, complementing the celebratory mood of the country.

Eid al-Fitr is also a time for charitable giving, as many take part in acts of kindness and donations to ensure that those in need can share in the joy of the occasion.

As the UAE prepares for the holiday, the spirit of gratitude and unity remains central to the celebrations.
