8 million coins pour onto the road when a coin transport vehicle overturns

A coin transport vehicle overturned while passing by a highway in Albud, Texas, causing 8 million coins to pour out of the vehicle and spill onto the road. The poured coins are worth 800,000 dollars, which is about 1.1 billion won in Korean money.

According to local reports such as FOX4, Texas State Police said that an 18-wheeler truck rolled over on the highway near Albud City in Wise County at 5:30 a.m. on the 29th (local time). At that time, the driver quickly swerved and left the highway, and as the vehicle fell without being able to handle the weight, 8 million new dimes that were loaded in the vehicle poured out onto the highway. The highway was completely closed in both directions as a large amount of coins spilled.

The truck was transporting new dimes from the Mint in Fort Worth to a bank in Dallas, and two people were in the vehicle. One was an armed guard from a transportation company, and the other was a driver from the company. The two were taken to a nearby hospital immediately after the accident, and they sustained minor injuries that are not life-threatening.

Transportation companies, highway management authorities, and mobilized police focused on recovering the spilled coins. They mobilized various equipment such as large industrial vacuum cars, heavy equipment, brooms, and shovels, and some workers even knelt down and picked up coins by hand.

Most of the coins were recovered after about 14 hours of working together. However, it is believed that some coins were lost, such as when it rained during the work and some coins became buried in the soil.

The Mint stated, "We have no official position on this accident," and the carrier, ABM, also did not provide a specific position other than confirming the accident.
