Bittensor Blockchain Halted Abruptly Following Suspected Security Breach Targeting User Wallets

A suspected security breach targeting user wallets has brought the Bittensor blockchain, a platform for decentralized artificial intelligence (AI), to an abrupt halt. This incident has sent shockwaves through the crypto community, causing the Bittensor token (TAO) to a plunge of over 12%.

The Bittensor team detected suspicious activity on Wednesday morning and swiftly suspended all network operations as a precautionary measure. Blockchain explorers indicate that no new blocks have been generated for over six hours, effectively putting the network in a “safe mode” where transactions are blocked.

While official details are still emerging, reports suggest that the attack involved unauthorized access to user wallets. Security researcher ZachXBT has pointed toward a possible leak of private keys, which serve as passwords to crypto wallets. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause and potential impact of the breach.

The market reacted strongly to the news, with the TAO token experiencing a significant price drop. At the time of writing, TAO is trading around $237, down from $281 just 24 hours ago, marking a decline of over 12%.

Bittensor co-founder Ala Shaabana has confirmed the network halt and assured users that the situation is under control. “We have contained the attack and put the chain into safe mode… We're still mid investigation and are considering all possibilities,” stated Shaabana.

The Bittensor community on Discord is closely monitoring the situation with concerns. A moderator, known as “Watchmaker,” has confirmed that the network will remain in “safe mode” for the next 24 hours as the investigation continues. Additionally, regular software updates have been temporarily suspended until the network is fully restored.
