Aptos Network Soars in Q1, Boosted by Key Metrics Surge
May 14, 2024 at 06:30 am
Aptos, a Layer 1 blockchain, experienced significant growth in key metrics during Q1 2023, including a 127% increase in circulating market cap and a 37% surge in revenue. Despite increased network activity and DeFi TVL growth, Aptos' native token, APT, has underperformed, with a modest price increase compared to other top cryptocurrencies.

Aptos Network Surges in Q1, Led by Strong Growth in Key Metrics
Aptos, a Layer 1 blockchain, has witnessed remarkable growth in its core metrics during the first quarter (Q1) of 2023, driven by a surge in Bitcoin prices and increased market capital inflow.
Circulating Market Cap and Revenue Increase
Aptos' circulating market cap experienced a significant increase of 127% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to $6.6 billion, outpacing other projects with comparable market caps and leading to an improvement in its ranking from 33 to 22. However, the price of Aptos' native token, APT, has not kept pace, showing only a modest increase of 76% QoQ.
Aptos' revenue, including all fees collected by the protocol, grew by 37% to $475,000. However, when denominated in APT, revenue decreased by 10%. All revenue generated is burned, but this has not had a significant impact on inflation.
Network Activity Skyrockets
Network activity on Aptos has surged, with average daily transactions and active addresses witnessing growth rates of 66% and 97% QoQ, respectively. Despite the increase in transaction activity, the average transaction fee has decreased by 45% QoQ to 0.0006 APT ($0.007). Average daily new addresses have also witnessed a substantial 91% QoQ growth to 44,000, while the weighted average one-month retention rate has increased by 82% QoQ to 14%.
Staking Participation Declines
Despite the positive developments, staked APT has decreased by 5% to 861 million tokens. However, when denominated in USD, the staked market cap has grown by 68% QoQ, exceeding $14 billion.
DeFi TVL Spikes
Aptos' decentralized finance (DeFi) total value locked (TVL) has experienced a remarkable increase of 376% QoQ to $573 million. This growth was not solely due to APT price appreciation, as TVL also increased by 170% QoQ in APT terms. Additionally, Aptos' stablecoin market cap nearly doubled QoQ, reaching $97 million.
APT Price Struggles
Despite the impressive overall growth, APT's price performance has been lackluster, with a decline of over 16% in the past month, resulting in a modest 2.7% surge year-to-date. This contrasts with the substantial gains seen by other top cryptocurrencies.
Currently trading at $8.46, APT has encountered resistance at $8.80, leading to a consolidation phase between $8.20 and $8.70 over the past month.
Conclusion
Aptos' robust growth in Q1, particularly in network activity and DeFi TVL, highlights the growing adoption and utility of its blockchain. However, the muted price performance of APT suggests that investors are cautiously monitoring the token's valuation and future prospects.
