How to Short Crypto on Bybit
Shorting crypto involves selling borrowed cryptocurrency assets with the expectation of buying them back at a lower price in the future, thereby profiting from the price difference. Bybit allows users to short cryptocurrencies using its Inverse Perpetual Contracts.
Step 1: Create a Bybit Account
Register for a Bybit account and complete the verification process.
Step 2: Deposit Funds
Fund your account with enough funds to cover your trading margin.
Step 3: Find the Crypto to Short
Select the cryptocurrency you want to short from the available options on Bybit.
Step 4: Choose an Order Type
Bybit offers two order types for shorting: Limit Order and Market Order.
- Limit Order: Allows you to set a specific price at which you want to enter the short position.
- Market Order: Executes the short position immediately at the current market price.
Step 5: Determine Entry Position
Use technical analysis or your own trading strategy to determine an appropriate entry point for your short position.
Step 6: Place Short Order
- Limit Order: Enter the price, order size, and choose "Sell/Short" in the order form.
- Market Order: Click on "Sell/Short" and specify the order size without setting a price.
Step 7: Monitor and Adjust
Once you have entered your short position, monitor the market closely. You can adjust your position by adding stops or take-profits to manage your risk.

- Thoroughly research the cryptocurrency you plan to short.
- Understand the risks involved in shorting cryptocurrencies.
- Use stop-loss orders to limit potential losses.
