In mid-2019, Keith Gill, a financial planner for an insurance firm in Massachusetts, began documenting a single $53,000 investment in GameStop on Reddit under the username Roaring Kitty.

Keith Gill, or Roaring Kitty, became well-known for his role in the GameStop stock price surge in January 2021, an event also known as a short squeeze.

Before all this, GameStop had fallen on hard times. Many institutional investors and hedge funds viewed GME stock as overvalued, leading them to take short positions, betting on the decline of the company's shares.
