And of course, his super-duper dog olfactory senses cannot overcome the gritty, overwhelming persistence of the sand to locate the lost ball. When Abby looked out to check on him, she saw what he was doing and began laughing.

We’re unsure if Teddy is used to being laughed at or is truly “done” with his Mom at this point. That expression and his disheveled appearance convey the weariness of a centuries-long, endless pursuit of a golden fruit that never existed.
