To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the Royal Mint will be striking a gold Proof edition of the coin, featuring a special ‘80' privy mark.

The VE Day coin, which was launched earlier this year, commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Second World War in Europe.

It was designed by artist Ben Saxton and depicts a dove of peace emerging from a shell casing in a vivid image of hope and new beginnings. The coin's reverse features the Royal Mint's standard Britannia design.

The coin, which is made from 99.9% pure copper, will be struck at the Royal Mint's historic mint in Llantrisant, Wales. It will be available to purchase from the Royal Mint's website.

The Royal Mint is known for commemorating key moments in British history through special coin releases. Recent additions include a 50p coin celebrating 60 years of the Red Arrows, 'Stories of the Second World War' 50p coin, a tribute to Sir Winston Churchill with his iconic 'We Shall Never Surrender' words engraved, and D-Day 80th anniversary coin released last year.

The Mint has also unveiled its 2025 annual coin set featuring five new commemorative designs, including a £5 coin marking 125 years since the birth of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. The collection includes two 50p coins, two £2 coins and the £5 coin, with prices starting from £39.50.
