The survival of Ethereum in the next five to ten years hinges on a 100x scaling of its capacity, according to a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, Dankrad Feist.

As reported by BTC Inc., Feist is the proposer of EIP-7938, an upgrade that would increase the gas limit, a part of the system that controls how many transactions can fit in each block.

Despite the differing opinions, Feist asserts that the potential benefits of the proposal outweigh the risks. He highlights the importance of Ethereum remaining the central blockchain in a multi-chain future, serving as the "heart of the crypto economy."

However, Feist warns that if we see a scenario where the majority of crypto activity occurs on Layer-2 solutions, blockchains built on top of Ethereum, while Ethereum itself becomes less busy, it could lead to a decrease in the value of the Ethereum ecosystem as a whole.

To prevent this outcome, Feist emphasizes the need for a shift in strategy. In his view, if we continue on the current path, we are setting up an environment where other chains might become more valuable than Ethereum in the long term.
