One of the best things about Bitcoin is how simple it is. This simplicity has lots of benefits: it increases robustness (less code = fewer bugs), lowers maintenance costs (less code = less work to keep it running and upgrade it), and expands participation in protocol development (more people have the bandwidth to fully understand the protocol and contribute).

Buterin highlighted such Ethereum issues as EVM's 256-bit architecture and precompiles, calling them over-optimized for outdated use cases.
