Terraform Labs, the company behind the collapsed UST stablecoin, has agreed to pay the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission $4.47 billion to settle civil fraud charges.

붕괴된 UST 스테이블코인의 배후 회사인 Terraform Labs는 민사 사기 혐의를 해결하기 위해 미국 증권거래위원회에 44억 7천만 달러를 지불하기로 합의했습니다.

The SEC on Friday asked a federal judge in the United States Southern District of New York to approve the settlement, which was reached two months after a unanimous jury found Terraform and its co-founder Do Kwon liable for civil fraud.

SEC는 금요일 미국 뉴욕 남부 지방의 연방 판사에게 합의를 승인해 달라고 요청했는데, 배심원단이 만장일치로 Terraform과 공동 창업자인 권도도가 민사 사기 혐의에 대해 책임이 있다고 판결한 지 두 달 만에 합의에 이르렀습니다.

The charges stemmed from allegations that Terraform misled investors and engaged in practices that ultimately led to the loss of billions of dollars in investors' funds.

According to a court filing, Terraform will pay roughly $3.59 billion plus interest, along with a $420 million penalty. Kwon will pay $204.3 million, including $110 million in disgorgement, interest and an $80 million penalty.

법원 서류에 따르면 Terraform은 약 35억 9천만 달러에 이자를 더한 금액과 4억 2천만 달러의 벌금을 지불할 예정입니다. 권씨는 환급금 1억1000만달러, 이자, 위약금 8000만달러 등 2억430만달러를 지급하게 된다.

The settlement is one of the largest ever levied by the SEC in a crypto case. However, it is just a fraction of the losses incurred by investors when UST collapsed in May 2022.

At the time, Terraform's native token, LUNA, and UST were inextricably linked in a mechanism designed to keep UST pegged to the U.S. dollar. But a sharp drop in the price of LUNA caused UST to lose its peg, setting off a downward price spiral and run on deposits that wiped out nearly $50 billion of UST's market cap in a matter of days.

당시 Terraform의 기본 토큰인 LUNA와 UST는 UST를 미국 달러에 고정하도록 설계된 메커니즘으로 불가분하게 연결되어 있었습니다. 그러나 LUNA 가격의 급격한 하락으로 인해 UST의 페그가 해제되어 가격 하락세가 시작되었고 예금이 넘쳐 며칠 만에 UST 시가총액이 거의 500억 달러에 달했습니다.

The collapse was so impactful that two years on, Terra-induced PTSD continues to sound the alarms on any project that offers double-digit yields.
