Zilliqa Struggles Amidst Market Rivals with Declining Token Value

May 17, 2024 at 11:51 am

Zilliqa (ZIL) has faced intense downward pressure in recent months due to ecosystem concerns. The token has plummeted by 50% since March, with its TVL shrinking to a mere $5.5 million. Zilliqa's decline mirrors that of other pioneer blockchains overshadowed by newer networks, and technical analysis suggests a continued bearish outlook for ZIL.

Zilliqa Struggles Amidst Market Rivals with Declining Token Value

Zilliqa Faces Setbacks Amidst Growing Market Competition

Zilliqa (ZIL), a veteran within the blockchain realm, has encountered significant challenges in recent months as concerns regarding its ecosystem persist. The token has plummeted to a mere $0.02290, a stark contrast to its lofty height of $0.045 in March this year, signaling a significant 50% depreciation.

Ecosystem Struggles Weigh on Zilliqa

Zilliqa, a trailblazer in the blockchain arena, has experienced diminishing demand from developers and investors as the market becomes increasingly saturated. Sharding, a pioneering concept introduced by Zilliqa, has failed to captivate the industry as anticipated.

Evaluating the ecosystem's growth through the lens of Decentralized Finance (DeFi), the current state of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) becomes apparent. DeFi Llama data reveals a meager $5.5 million in Total Value Locked (TVL) for Zilliqa, indicative of a minuscule market presence. The platform monitors only five DeFi dApps within the ecosystem: Avely Finance, ZilSwap, PlunderSwap, Ionise, and Pillar.

Ionise, a lending platform, holds a negligible asset value of just $22k, reflecting its insignificant market share. ZilSwap and PlunderSwap, Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs) operating within the ecosystem, exhibit low trading volumes.

Newer Platforms Eclipse Established Players

In contrast, emerging blockchain networks have captured substantial market share in a relatively short period. Coinbase's Base Blockchain, for instance, boasts over $1.54 billion in assets, while Blast holds $1.5 billion. Merlin's assets have surged to $1.17 billion, and Sui has accumulated $791 million, despite being operational for less than a year.

Zilliqa's performance mirrors that of other pioneering blockchains that have yielded to more modern layer 1 and layer 2 solutions. IOTA, for example, continues to struggle with a market share of just $4.7 million, as reflected in its ShimmerEVM network's modest asset value.

Cardano, another reputable blockchain, holds a mere $58 million in DeFi assets, while EOS, Algorand, and Hedera Hashgraph collectively possess less than $200 million in assets.

Zilliqa's Price Trajectory

Analyzing the ZIL price chart reveals a steep downward trajectory. The token is currently suspended at the second support level of the Andrew's pitchfork tool and has declined marginally below the 61.8% Fibonacci Retracement level.

Zilliqa has also dropped beneath the Ichimoku cloud indicator and the Woodie pivot point indicator. Notably, the impending formation of a "death cross" between the 200-day and 50-day moving averages casts a bearish shadow over the asset.

Given these indicators, Zilliqa's outlook remains profoundly bearish, with a potential decline towards the psychological level of $0.020. A glimmer of hope exists only if the developers unveil a significant development or if Bitcoin resumes its bullish momentum.
