Venture Capitalist Tim Draper Predicts Bitcoin Could Triple by 2024 Due to ETFs and Halving
Apr 11, 2024 at 03:08 pm
Venture capitalist Tim Draper predicts a significant surge in Bitcoin's value to $250,000 by the end of the year, driven by the inflow of investment into spot exchange-traded funds and the approaching Bitcoin halving in April 2024. These factors, coupled with the finite supply and growing acceptance of Bitcoin as a payment method, are expected to enhance its appeal amidst concerns over inflation and currency devaluation.

Renowned Venture Capitalist Predicts Tripling of Bitcoin Value by 2024 Amidst Influx of Exchange-Traded Funds and Looming Halving
In an interview with Cointelegraph during Paris Blockchain Week, renowned venture capitalist Tim Draper reinforced his unwavering belief that Bitcoin (BTC) is poised for a substantial surge in value driven by a confluence of factors set to converge in 2024.
"If I were to make a prediction, it's entirely within the realm of possibility that we could witness Bitcoin reaching $250,000 by the end of this year. The market conditions are aligning quite favorably," Draper remarked, reflecting on his previous price forecast for 2022.
The regulatory approval of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States has played a pivotal role in rekindling interest in Bitcoin and attracting capital inflows into its ecosystem. Draper opines that these investment vehicles have paved the way for investors who may have previously been hesitant to hold BTC directly due to concerns about self-custody. Furthermore, ETFs serve as a hedge against the devaluation of fiat currencies:
"I believe these funds provide individuals with an accessible means to acquire Bitcoin and hold it for the long term, enabling them to safeguard their financial well-being in the face of potential turmoil affecting the dollar or the euro."
Draper also highlighted the appeal of Bitcoin ETFs for investors seeking to maintain continuity in their portfolio management strategies. Access to Bitcoin ETFs allows them to continue entrusting their investments to established financial institutions such as Fidelity or JPMorgan, while incorporating this new asset class into their broader portfolios.
Draper's bullish outlook on Bitcoin is further underpinned by its finite supply and growing adoption as a legitimate payment option for various goods and services. This, coupled with the challenges confronting fiat currencies, including inflation and diminished purchasing power, is driving the masses toward Bitcoin as a haven:
"I no longer see the need to hold onto fiat currencies that steadily lose value over time due to political machinations, government spending, or arbitrary decisions by policymakers to inflate the money supply. Bitcoin has emerged as a bastion of security against these inflationary pressures.
In fact, I believe we are approaching a tipping point where individuals are becoming more comfortable with Bitcoin than with their own fiat currencies."
The upcoming fourth Bitcoin halving, scheduled for April 20, is also poised to exert a significant impact on market dynamics. Draper emphasized the importance of this event, which reduces the issuance of new Bitcoins by half, for investors to consider:
"For those invested in the stock market, the adage goes, 'Don't bet against the Fed.' Similarly, for those invested in Bitcoin, the advice is, 'Don't bet against the halving.' It's a game-changer. As the supply shrinks, demand will naturally increase, leading to an upward trajectory for the price. This is fundamental economics — the interplay of supply and demand."
Draper reiterated his belief that even a modest single-digit percentage allocation to Bitcoin is becoming an increasingly attractive hedge against growing concerns over bank failures and devaluing sovereign currencies.
This news comes amidst concerns raised by the CEO of Trezor, a prominent cryptocurrency hardware wallet provider, regarding Coinbase's exposure to hackers and government surveillance due to its involvement in Bitcoin ETFs.
