Top 10 Cryptocurrencies Suffer Losses

Sep 02, 2024 at 03:00 am

The cryptocurrency market is reeling after a brutal week, with all of the top 10 digital assets by market cap seeing significant losses.

Top 10 Cryptocurrencies Suffer Losses

Major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Dogecoin (DOGE) experienced significant losses over the past week, as did smaller tokens like Toncoin (TON) and XRP.

Tron (TRX) and Toncoin (TON) Managed Smallest Drops

Tron (TRX) managed to hold up the best among the top 10 cryptocurrencies, dipping by only 3.6%, the smallest decline.

This performance comes despite recent news of Tron founder Justin Sun being sued by a Chinese property developer over unpaid debts, and the token being banned in South Korea due to concerns over its initial coin offering (ICO).

Close behind, Toncoin (TON) dropped by just 5.7%, a surprising performance considering the recent negative headlines surrounding the token.

Earlier this month, a French court ordered the arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov for allegedly failing to register TON with the country’s financial markets regulator.

The token was subsequently delisted by several major cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance, Huobi, and OKX.

Bitcoin (BTC) Price Drops 9.7%

Bitcoin (BTC) dropped by 9.7%, a clear signal that the crypto market is in rough waters, with its movement often setting the tone for other assets.

The drop comes as the world’s largest cryptocurrency continues to struggle to regain the $20,000 level, after falling below it in early December.

Dogecoin (DOGE) Breaks into Double-Digit Losses

Meme coin Dogecoin (DOGE) broke into double-digit losses, falling by 10%.

The token has been on a roller coaster ride in recent months, surging in value after Elon Musk acquired Twitter in October, but later giving up most of those gains amid concerns over the platform’s future.

BNB, XRP, Ethereum (ETH) Price Drops

BNB, the token behind the massive Binance exchange, couldn’t escape the downward spiral, dropping by 10.5%.

The token has been under pressure in recent months due to the exchange’s problems with regulators, and concerns over the token’s economics.

Meanwhile, Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, saw a 10.8% fall, a stark reminder that even the biggest names aren’t immune to market volatility.

Cardano (ADA), Avalanche (AVAX) Continue Downward Trend

Cardano (ADA), which has struggled to gain momentum in recent months, continued its downward trend, falling by 11.6%.

The token has been underperforming the broader crypto market this year due to concerns over its development roadmap and lack of major dApps on the network.

Avalanche (AVAX), a platform known for its speed, also tumbled by 17.3%, continuing a decline that began last week amid rumors of an SEC investigation into the platform.

Solana (SOL) Takes Hardest Hit

But it was Solana (SOL) that took the hardest hit among the top 10, plunging by 17.5%, the steepest decline.

The token has been battered in recent months due to the network’s宕机 and congestion issues, which have led to several outages and disruptions.
