Stablecoin Transaction Volume Hits Record High in June
Apr 08, 2024 at 02:01 am
In June, the adjusted transaction volume for stablecoins reached a record high of $54.9 billion, a 13.9% increase from the previous month. This marks the fourth consecutive month that the volume has exceeded $40 billion, with Tether once again dominating the adjusted transaction volume. The increase continues a trend observed since the spring, when volumes surged above the range seen earlier this year. Notably, USDC crossed the 1 billion token supply milestone on Thursday.

Stablecoin Transaction Volume Soars to Unprecedented Heights in June
New York, July 2, 2020 - The adjusted transaction volume for stablecoins surged to a record $54.9 billion in June, marking a 13.9% increase from the previous month's $48.2 billion, according to data compiled by The Block.
This exceptional growth signifies the fourth consecutive month that the transaction volume has surpassed $40 billion, eclipsing the previous all-time high set in May. As in previous months, Tether dominated the market, accounting for the majority of the adjusted transaction volume.

The surge in stablecoin transaction volume is a continuation of a trend that began in the spring, when the volume spiked above the levels observed between October and February. Notably, this growth coincided with increased volatility in the cryptocurrency market.
Meanwhile, USDC, another prominent stablecoin, reached a significant milestone on Thursday, surpassing 1 billion tokens in circulation, as reported by The Block.
Experts attribute the rising popularity of stablecoins to their ability to provide stability and liquidity in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, particularly during periods of market volatility. Stablecoins are pegged to the value of fiat currencies such as the US dollar, offering investors a safe haven from price fluctuations.
"The surge in stablecoin transaction volume underscores their growing importance in the cryptocurrency market," said a spokesperson for The Block. "They offer investors a reliable and efficient means of transacting and storing value, especially in volatile market conditions."
The continuous growth of stablecoin transaction volume is a testament to their expanding role in the wider financial landscape. As the cryptocurrency industry matures, stablecoins are expected to play an increasingly significant part in facilitating transactions, hedging against risk, and providing access to financial services.
