MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. — Residents rally against Bitcoin mining operation

A group of Mountain City, Tn residents are planning to protest a Nevada-based company, CleanSpark, wanting to establish a large-scale cryptocurrency mining operation in the area.

Those opposed to this proposed bitcoin mine list several issues with the facility including noise pollution, environmental impacts and a decrease property values close to the facility.

Protesters will be gathering at 5:30 p.m. at the board of mayor and alderman meeting at 1188 Railroad Ave. in Mountain City.

Those who attended the meeting will be wearing yellow shirts and holding a petition that has gained more than 1000 signatures.

The mayor will be offering to provide transportation to residents to visit a bitcoin mine facility so they’re able to see them first-hand.

The board originally planned on voting to approve or disapprove of this facility later this month but seeing the distain from residents, the vote will be pushed into June.
