Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has expanded its Bitcoin holdings with the purchase of an additional $12.6 million worth of the cryptocurrency.
This latest purchase, which adds 150 BTC at an average price of approximately $83,801 per coin, brings the company’s total to 3,350 BTC. At current prices of around $174,268, this batch of coins has a value of about $291.3 million.
The move continues Metaplanet’s strategy of increasing its Bitcoin reserves.
This latest purchase follows the recent addition of Eric Trump, Donald Trump’s second son, to Metaplanet’s Strategic Board of Advisors.
Announcing the appointment, Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich highlighted Eric Trump’s expertise in business and his passion for Bitcoin.
“We are honored to welcome Eric Trump to our Strategic Board of Advisors,” Gerovich said.
“His experience in real estate investment, his enthusiasm for Bitcoin, and his role in the Trump family enterprise will be invaluable as we strive to become a leading force in the Bitcoin Treasury space.”
Since launching its Bitcoin adoption plan in April, Metaplanet has been rolling out a large-scale initiative to diversify its portfolio with a focus on accumulating more BTC.
The firm is aiming to reach 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026.
According to data from Bitcointreasuries.net, Metaplanet is currently the 10th largest corporate Bitcoin holder globally and the largest in Asia.
The company’s stock has seen a significant increase, rising by 38.7% this year, and was up by 4.8% in Japan at the time of writing.
