Litecoin [LTC] Outpaces Cardano [ADA] on Most Fronts, But Will the Trend Continue?
Jun 01, 2024 at 01:00 pm
Cardano’s [ADA] market cap might be higher than Litecoin’s [LTC] by almost $10 billion. But when it comes to network activity, the former does not come close.

Despite having a market capitalization that is nearly $10 billion higher than Litecoin (LTC), Cardano (ADA) fell short in terms of network activity when compared to the former.
According to IntoTheBlock, Litecoin had 357,260 active addresses on 31 May, while Cardano had a significantly lower 28,630. Active addresses on a blockchain indicate the number of unique wallets that were involved in successful transactions on that chain.
However, it is important to note that this metric counts an address only once, regardless of the number of times it is involved in sending or receiving transactions within a day.
This disparity in active addresses translates to Litecoin having 12 times the activity of Cardano. Such variations in activity levels can foreshadow higher prices for a cryptocurrency.
At the time of writing, LTC was trading at $84.52, up 1.53% in the last 24 hours, while ADA was valued at $0.45, indicating a sideways movement in its price.
A scan of Litecoin’s recent developments by AMBCrypto to ascertain if they influenced this wide margin did not yield any major updates. This suggested that market participants found LTC to be more deserving of attention than ADA at this time.
However, did Litecoin outpace Cardano on all fronts? Let’s find out. One metric that was evaluated was development activity. This was one area where Cardano consistently showed strength.
At the time of this writing, data from Santiment showed that the project’s development activity fell to 55.57. This metric reveals how engaged developers are in ensuring the proper function of a blockchain.
As such, the decline in this metric suggested that code commits to Cardano’s network health had dropped. In the case of Litecoin, it was not the same situation as with the active addresses.
According to Santiment, Litecoin's development activity at the time of this writing was 0.036. Compared to Cardano, the active GitHub repositories dedicated to Litecoin were almost non-existent.
However, this metric is not known to influence prices in most cases. Hence, the margin does not suggest that ADA would outperform LTC.
In terms of price, AMBCrypto also assessed the MVRV ratio. MVRV stands for Market Value to Realized Value and measures profitability and the valuation of a cryptocurrency.
At press time, Cardano’s 30-day MVRV ratio was -4.932%. This reading indicated that a lot of ADA holders were dealing with unrealized losses.
However, LTC’s situation was different as its ratio was 12.38%. This positive reading implies that the average LTC holder (30-day window) was in profit.
When it comes to valuation, both cryptocurrencies could be said to be valued on the lower end of the spectrum. If the market does return to its extremely bullish phase, ADA might jump to $0.79. Litecoin could also be able to hit $95.37.
