Kusal Mendis to Replace Jos Buttler in Gujarat Titans Squad for IPL 2025 Playoffs
May 15, 2025 at 05:45 pm
Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis is set to replace Jos Buttler in the Gujarat Titans' (GT) squad when the IPL 2025 playoffs happen.
Kusal Mendis will be replacing Jos Buttler in the Gujarat Titans squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs, reports ESPNcricinfo.
This will be Mendis's first time featuring in the IPL.
The report further stated that Mendis will not be playing for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to "personal commitments and some administrative issues."
It is still unclear whether Mendis will be playing for Gladiators in the PSL final on May 19 or not.
However, he will be joining the Gujarat Titans squad on Saturday, May 16 in New Delhi ahead of their clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, May 17.
Buttler is unavailable for Gujarat in the IPL 2025 playoffs due to his inclusion in England's ODI squad for the series against West Indies, which starts on May 29.
The same day also happens to be the day when the IPL 2025 playoffs will begin, with the final to be played on June 3.

While England announced their full-strength squad for the three-match ODI series against West Indies, two more England batters - Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians) and Jacob Bethell (Royal Challengers Bangalore) - could also miss out on the IPL 2025 playoffs due to national duties, but their availability status is still not clear.
Despite being named in England's squads for the series against the West Indies, Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals) and Jamie Overton (Chennai Super Kings) will not be returning to India. Their respective teams are already out of contention for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
