Grayscale Ends Outflow Streak as Bitcoin Trust Sees Inflows
May 07, 2024 at 04:04 pm
Crypto asset manager Grayscale has broken its four-month outflow streak from its spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), with inflows into the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) continuing for the second consecutive day. While GBTC has recorded significant outflows of over $17.5 billion since January, it saw an inflow of $63 million on May 3 and $3.9 million on May 6, bringing its total inflows to $66.9 million.

Grayscale Breaks Outflow Streak as Bitcoin Trust Experiences Inflows
Crypto asset management giant Grayscale Investments has finally broken its protracted outflow streak from its flagship Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), with inflows continuing for the second consecutive day.
For 78 grueling days since January 11, GBTC witnessed a relentless exodus of funds, averaging a staggering $218 million per day. This relentless outflow culminated in a total of over $17.5 billion покидая трест.
However, the tide began to turn on May 3, when GBTC recorded its first inflow of $63 million, breaking the outflow streak and providing a glimmer of hope for the trust. This positive sentiment spilled over into the broader spot Bitcoin ETF market, resulting in net positive inflows of $378.3 million after a protracted period of losses.
Continuing this positive momentum, GBTC registered a second inflow of $3.9 million on May 6, bringing its total inflows thus far to $66.9 million.
Despite GBTC's substantial net outflow of $17.4 billion, the overall landscape for spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States remains encouraging. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust has emerged as the clear leader, attracting the largest overall investment with net inflows of $15.5 billion.
Other major contributors to the positive inflow trend include Fidelity Investments' Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund with $8.1 billion, Cathie Wood's ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF with $2.1 billion, and the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF Trust with $1.7 billion.
At the time of writing, the cumulative flow of investments into the spot Bitcoin ETF market stands at nearly $11.8 billion, indicating a growing appetite for regulated exposure to Bitcoin.
SEC Delays Decision on Spot Ether ETFs
In a separate development, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has postponed its decision on approving or rejecting spot Ether (ETH) ETF applications from several providers.
Applications from industry heavyweights such as BlackRock, Grayscale, and Invesco Galaxy have been pushed back to July. The SEC cited the need for additional time to thoroughly review the proposed rule changes and consider the issues raised therein.
This delay encompasses all prospective Ether ETF issuers, including Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, Hashdex, and Ark 21Shares, as analysts had anticipated.
The SEC's decision underscores the ongoing regulatory scrutiny surrounding Ether ETFs and the challenges faced by issuers in meeting the SEC's stringent requirements for approval.
