In an effort to enhance security for the cryptocurrency industry, the French government said it will provide increased protection for crypto entrepreneurs and their families.

The French government has announced that it will be offering enhanced security to cryptocurrency entrepreneurs and their families. This move comes in response to a series of incidents in which crypto entrepreneurs or members of their immediate families were targeted by armed gangs.
The government officials will be offering crypto entrepreneurs priority access to the police emergency line, as well as home visits and safety briefings.
Law enforcement officers in France will also be receiving “anti-crypto asset laundering training.” The country’s Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said the aim is to deter the attackers and protect the industry.
“These repeated kidnappings of professionals in the crypto sector will be fought with specific tools, both immediate and short-term, to prevent, dissuade and hinder in order to protect the industry,” the interior minister said.
The French police commanders will be visiting crypto entrepreneurs at their homes to advise them of the risks and good practices to adopt. In addition, crypto entrepreneurs will be given priority on the police emergency line, with shorter response times.
Earlier this year, the French police union had slammed the government for not doing enough to protect police officers after they were called out to respond to a crypto-related incident.
As reported by Bitcoin.com News and other media oulets, the armed gangs’ tactics involve kidnapping and forcing victims to give up their digital assets. In the last reported incident, masked men attempted to kidnap the daughter of the CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange Paymium in central Paris. However, the kidnapping was foiled by the executive who reportedly tackled the masked men.
The crypto sector executives and their families will now be offered the same level of protection as diplomats and high-ranking civil servants.
