ETHFI's Surge Hints at the Rising Popularity of Liquid Restaking in DeFi
Mar 28, 2024 at 12:31 am

Is ETHFI's Surge a Sign of Liquid Restaking's Star Power?
The spotlight's on Ether.fi, folks. Its governance token, ETHFI, hit a new high on Wednesday, riding the hype train for liquid restaking. The token, the voice of the protocol's决策 process, soared by a whopping 50% in 24 hours, peaking at $7.2. It outshone its peers like Ether (ETH), Bitcoin (BTC), and the CoinDesk 20 Index (CD20), which all took a tumble during the same timeframe.
After a post-airdrop price dip on March 18, ETHFI is making a comeback. It initially hit $5 on Binance but quickly tanked below $3. Airdrops, those freebies for early adopters, are a common way for protocols to drum up interest in their offerings.
Are Liquid Restaking Protocols the New It Crowd in DeFi?
Liquid restaking protocols like Ether.Fi are the talk of the town in decentralized finance (DeFi). They piggyback on Ethereum's proof-of-stake blockchain to secure other networks through EigenLayer, the OG restaking platform.
Ether.Fi is leading the pack, boasting a total value locked (TVL) that's ballooned from $100 million to over $3 billion since the start of the year, according to DefiLlama. Rivals like Kelp DAO, Puffer Finance, Renzo, and Swell are also raking in deposits, from hundreds of millions to over a billion dollars.
Could ETHFI's Rise Pump Up Other Liquid Restaking Tokens?
Ignas, a DeFi insider, reckons the strong performance of ETHFI could send other liquid restaking token (LRT) airdrops to the moon.
"The higher ETHFI flies, the more juice other LRT governance tokens will have," Ignas said. "Our Swell, Renzo, Puffer, Kelp, and EigenLayer airdrops will get sweeter as ETHFI climbs."
Is Ether.Fi a DeFi Game-Changer?
Ether.Fi's success highlights the growing importance of liquid restaking in DeFi. By allowing users to stake their ETH while maintaining liquidity, these protocols unlock new possibilities for yield generation and network security.
With its strong governance token and high TVL, Ether.Fi is a force to be reckoned with in the competitive DeFi landscape. It remains to be seen whether the protocol can maintain its dominance and drive further adoption of liquid restaking.
