Ethereum (ETH) Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Calls for a Network Architecture Overhaul

Ethereum (ETH) Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Calls for a Network Architecture Overhaul

The co-founder of Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), Vitalik Buterin, has called for a shift in the network’s priorities over the next five years, urging a return to simplicity in the base protocol.

In a recent blog post, Buterin expressed concern over Ethereum’s increasingly complex architecture, suggesting it could be hindering accessibility and scalability. He argued for a minimal protocol similar to Bitcoin's (CRYPTO: BTC) simplicity-first ethos.

"The simplest and most useful change would be to reduce the number of protocol-level concepts that programmers need to understand in order to write efficient and maintainable code," Buterin stated.

Highlighting sophisticated features that, in hindsight, offer limited practical value, Buterin pointed out that recent advancements like proof-of-stake and zk-SNARKs, while useful, contribute to a bloated system.

"We already have sync committees, epoch structures, and other concepts that add complexity without sufficient benefit," he noted.

Buterin proposed a "3-slot finality" model, which would simplify consensus by removing components like sync committees and epoch structures. He also called for standardization across the protocol to reduce toolchain complexity and increase accessibility.

"Having multiple, incompatible toolchains would create friction and limit participation," Buterin warned.

This call for simplification comes soon after Ethereum Foundation's recent structural overhaul. On April 28, the foundation appointed Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz K. Stańczak as co-executive directors, separating operational leadership from long-term vision strategy.

As for the price action, Ethereum is currently trading at $1,828, showing no change in the past day.

Popular crypto analyst Cas Abbe highlighted that ETH's monthly RSI has just retested a rare, multi-cycle support level.

Each time this has happened, we've seen massive pumps in the following months. If that plays out again, we could be looking at $8,000+ by Q4 2025.

Buterin's suggestions and the structural changes at the Ethereum Foundation highlight the ongoing efforts to optimize and maintain the long-term viability of the Ethereum network.
