Dymension launches Beyond to support rollups across blockchain ecosystems
Apr 28, 2025 at 09:19 pm
Dymension, originally established as a Layer 1 blockchain for hosting native rollups, is stepping beyond its initial boundaries with the release of Beyond
Key highlights:
* Dymension, known for its Layer 1 blockchain focused on hosting native rollups, is introducing Beyond, a protocol upgrade transforming it into a universal settlement layer for any rollup across the blockchain space.
* Until now, rollups on Dymension were limited to its own ecosystem. However, with Beyond, developers will be able to deploy any rollup on any base blockchain—be it Ethereum, Solana, or another—without needing to adjust the underlying chain’s protocols.
* Dymension acts as the validating bridge, managing deposits, securing withdrawals, and resolving disputes by referencing onchain data from these base chains. The platform maintains full blockchain-level custody for users, avoiding multisig smart contracts and keeping trust assumptions to a minimum.
* Rollups launched through Dymension retain the security properties of their base chains, while enjoying Dymension’s low-trust bridging and operational independence. This allows for a decentralized governance structure where no single entity controls the protocol.
* In the evolving blockchain ecosystem, many Layer 1 chains are increasingly assuming the role of data layers. Originally built as monolithic systems combining execution, consensus, and data availability, L1 chains like Ethereum have seen rollups emerge to overcome scalability and flexibility limitations.
* Dymension’s Beyond upgrade leverages this trend, allowing developers to deploy any rollup on top of an L1, utilizing their proven infrastructure and abundant blockspace. This enables base blockchains to offer a broader suite of execution options without being confined to a single architecture.
* For Layer 1 chains, Beyond accelerates value creation by enabling easy rollup deployment. For developers, it offers the freedom to choose a base ecosystem that aligns with their values and technical needs without being limited by the chain’s native virtual machine or performance boundaries.
* Users gain faster, seamless interactions across rollups, along with full self-custody of their assets and intuitive deposit and withdrawal processes.
* By facilitating rollup deployment across multiple blockchains, Dymension aims to foster a positive-sum economy where both rollups and base layers can flourish.
* With Beyond, Dymension is quickly advancing, reducing block times to just one second for transactional speed and a near-instant user experience. Direct bridging to major ecosystems like Solana and Ethereum ensures optimal connectivity, eliminating the need for custom infrastructure solutions.
* Along with innovations like Quick Auth, which eliminates the need to sign every transaction, Dymension is becoming the ideal infrastructure layer for a future defined by interconnected rollups.
